Join us for live music with Jules Olson and Mary Hood. 9-11 PM | No Cover (Please note the kitchen closes at 8 PM)
Jules grew up in a small town located in upstate New York, just outside the city of Albany. Growing up, music was a huge part of her life, even without very much formal training. She took piano lessons briefly, studied flute in the high school band, and sang in choir, but mostly sang for her self outside of school. She then studied at SUNY New Paltz and during her sophomore year, decided to pursue a degree in Jazz Performance. She studied with accomplished vocalists such as Machan Taylor, Teri Roiger, and Katie Martucci. While honing in her vocal skills, she also had the opportunity to study jazz guitar with Professor Mark Dziuba. In 2019 Jules began to perform and record her own music. Since then, she has won competitions sponsored by Pick Up Music, opened for amazing artists like Caleb Hawley, Joanna Teters, Bells Atlas, Sophie Marks, and The Big Takeover, and played renowned venues such as The Bitter End, The Colony, The Falcon, Rockwood Music Hall, and Daryl’s House Club.
Jules began writing music at a very young age, but only began to take it seriously during the summer of 2018. In her early years, artists like John Mayer, Sara Bareilles, and Bill Withers inspired her to write. In college, she found and was inspired by artists such as Allen Stone, Daniel Caesar, and Lianne LaHavas. Over the next two years she would take influence from these artists, and many more, to create her own unique sound.
When March of 2020 came around and the pandemic hit, there were no gigs in sight for the foreseeable future. Jules took this time to write, and really began to zero in on her specific sound. She released her debut EP “Travel Guide” on May 29th of 2020, which is reminiscent of Lianne LaHavas, and John Mayer’s “Room For Squares” era. After the summer of 2020, Jules took a leap and moved to Bozeman, Montana. This gave her the space and solitude for new inspiration, and self discovery. Here is where Jules really began to feel like herself as an artist for the first time, taking more influence from artists like Phoebe Bridgers, and Pinegrove. With her new, unreleased music, she has effortlessly woven together hints of indie-folk, soul, and pop. With her talents for sweet vocals, soulful melodies, and vivid storytelling, Jules creates a beautifully emotional experience through every song.
Mary Hood is a rising voice from a digital generation singing about old school themes like loneliness, love, loss, and longing with twisting acoustic guitar and a reedy, soulful voice. Her music stands alone, but her main influences Fiona Apple and Shakey Graves can be heard in her raw and resonant style, while others have compared her lyrics and storminess to acoustic legends Elliot Smith and Nick Drake.
Mary performed at Pleasantville Music Festival in summer of 2017, her name in the line up with well known artists Suzanne Vega, Blues Traveler, and Living Colour. She has also performed at other festivals and venues in the Hudson Valley area and New York City, including Newburgh Illuminated Festival, The Bitter End, and the Towne Crier.
Mary’s hypnotic sound captivates an audience while her unique fingerpicking weaves through each lyric, creating a musical storyline all its own
